But there are many other places in Italy that can offer you the Visual and spiritual sustenance, and one of them would be the Cathedral of Pisa or the Duomo di Pisa.
Originating in the Cathedral of Pisa
Located in The Tuscan region, the city of Pisa is most famous for its leaning tower. However, it is not the only attraction like it has to offer. There is also the Cathedral of Pisa, which makes a vision as impressive as its world famous Tower.
The construction of the Cathedral of Pisa began 1093. Buscheto, which had since been entombed in one of the Cathedral vault, had been its primary architect. At his death, continued its work with the equally famous Rainaldo.
In 1595, had a tragic fire as the majority of the medieval artwork as the Cathedral of Pisa was praised for. Thankfully, many of the finest Renaissance artists had been asked to assist in the Cathedral painting. Their significant contribution had allowed the Cathedral of Pisa to continue to be a symbol of Pisa's Romanesque art as it is today.
Other places to see in the Cathedral
There are many reasons why your trip to Italy must include a visit to Pisa. To begin, the Cathedral of Pisa, offers many impressive works of art that rarely do you see anywhere else. If you reach the large nave of the Cathedral, you will see a beautiful Cosmatesque marble walking path with a painted and equally beautiful oval dome above. In this area, you will also be able to view the majestic tomb designed by Tino di Camaino for Emperor Henry VII. Pair of cherubs in the South side, is a masterpiece of Ghirlandaio.
Another Cathedral's most famous art masterpiece would be advised by the pulpit Giovanno Pisano. After the fire had renovation 1595 workers from beginning unimpressed with predikstolens appearance. The pulpit was therefore abolished and hidden away in a wooden crate. It was only in 1926 as the pulpit thankfully was found and restored to its rightful place.
Last but not least, don't forget to visit the entrance pier of the Cathedral. You can find the St. Agnes with her Lamb, a lovely painting of high Renaissance painter Andrea del Sarto. Also in the area of bronze angels and crucifix by Giambologna.
Cathedral of Pisa is open every day, even if reception vary depending on the date of your visit. If you have a strict budget for your trip to Italy, be aware that the Cathedral will charge a small fee for the visitors entrance.
Even if you have assigned only a short time for your trip to Italy, would you still don't regret making a side trip to the city of Pisa. As the Duomo and the leaning tower is in close proximity to each other, you would not be able to visit each attraction in a single day.
