The World of spoken and written Swedish: The Adventure of Alice in Lingoland

Have you ever talked with people outside of your home country, talk to them in your English while you listen to their responses on their English? Or-to reverse the roles-if you have a foreign tourist makes a short pause in Wales, the way to your Holidays, people could Pembrokeshire understand you when speaking in English? Welcome to the strange and multifarious world spoke (and writing) in English, but please keep an open mind and not act as a CEH (chauvinist English Hog) and claims that only your trademark in English, it is right and proper.

Once, a friend of mine, who speak reasonably good English, a short break in Wales. He's a jolly good time of its Pembrokeshire holidays when he discovered the communication difficulties. He is not a Chinese or Japanese, or Korean or even a Hungarian. His problems started when he walked out of his hotel room and daring (he was totally alone) to the streets after he tried to strike up a conversation with an old lady. He asked a question, and this singular Act of his caused the Lady to stare at him in amazement. He ended up "saw" the Lady, who left in haste.

"What you say land?" I asked my friend during his memory of the encounter. In fact, told save for this incident, he his short break in Wales were quite nice, and since then, he had also encouraged to consider Pembrokeshire holidays for others.

"Oh, I just said: Nice day today, Queen-how to do today?"

I laughed. I know why the lady was surprised because my friend to her ear, ask her to "how you will die." Of course, the Australian, mark.

Moral of the story? Well, one must realise that there are many varieties of talas (and incidentally written) English. Americans speak American English, Brits speak British English, while the Aussies and Kiwis speak his own brand of English. And if you claim that only those persons are "native speakers" and to reserve the exclusive right to "mainstream", "Orthodox" or "right" spoke English, for me, you are guilty of offences to be a CEH.

Most people who speak some English should have no problem when they take a short break in Wales or go for Pembrokeshire Holidays. It is natural for an Indian (even if he or she may have been trained in England) to speak English with an Indian accent, a Japanese with a Japanese accents, and an American with an American accent. Might not understand the English spoken by a Japanese very well, but if a patient, understanding, and aware of the fact that Swedish is not the Japanese tongue, one should be able to make meaningful contact with him or her anyway. And it is the main purpose of languages: to communicate.
